Page Setup

Paper Size

Choose from standard sizes:

  • Letter (8.5 × 11 in) - US standard
  • A4 (210 × 297 mm) - International standard
  • Legal (8.5 × 14 in)
  • Custom - Specify dimensions

Orientation

  • Portrait - Vertical (default)
  • Landscape - Horizontal

Margins

Preset options:

  • Normal - 1 inch all sides
  • Narrow - 0.5 inch all sides
  • Wide - 1.25 inch all sides
  • Custom - Specify each margin

Typography

Font

Select from professional typefaces:

  • Default - Latin Modern (LaTeX standard)
  • Times - Times New Roman style
  • Palatino - Elegant serif
  • Computer Modern - Classic TeX
  • Sans-serif - Helvetica style

Font Size

  • 10pt - Compact
  • 11pt - Standard
  • 12pt - Large (required by some journals)

Line Spacing

  • Single - 1.0
  • 1.5 lines - Common for drafts
  • Double - Required for submissions

Page Elements

Configure what appears:

  • Title - Document title
  • Author - Author name(s)
  • Date - Export or document date
  • Page numbers - Various positions

Position options: left, center, right, or custom.

Table of Contents

  • Include TOC - Generate from headings
  • TOC depth - How many heading levels
  • Page numbers - Show page references
  • Clickable links - Navigate in PDF viewer

Cover Page

Generate a title page:

  • Title, subtitle
  • Author(s) and affiliations
  • Date
  • Abstract (optional)

Academic Features

Citations

  • Bibliography - Automatically generated
  • Citation style - Uses document setting
  • Hanging indent - Standard bibliography format

Equations

  • High quality - LaTeX rendering via Pandoc
  • Numbering - Automatic equation numbers
  • References - Cross-references work in PDF

Figures & Tables

  • Captions - Properly formatted
  • Numbering - Auto-numbered
  • Placement - Float to optimal position
  • List of figures/tables - Optional

Track Changes Options

When your document has tracked changes:

  • Final - Accept all, clean output
  • Original - Reject all, show original
  • Markup - Show changes in PDF

For markup mode:

  • Additions appear highlighted
  • Deletions show strikethrough
  • Comments appear as annotations

Advanced Options

PDF/A

For archival compliance:

  1. Enable PDF/A mode
  2. All fonts embedded
  3. Suitable for long-term preservation

Watermark

Add a watermark:

  • Text: "DRAFT", "CONFIDENTIAL", etc.
  • Position: center, diagonal, header/footer
  • Opacity: 10-50%

Page Numbers Starting Page

Skip page numbers on title page:

  1. Enable cover page
  2. Set Start numbering to page 2

Two-Sided Printing

For bound documents:

  1. Enable Two-sided
  2. Margins adjust for binding
  3. Headers/footers alternate

Quality Settings

Resolution

For images:

  • Screen (72 DPI) - Smaller files
  • Print (300 DPI) - Publication quality
  • High (600 DPI) - Maximum quality

Compression

  • Maximum - Smallest file, some quality loss
  • Balanced - Good quality, reasonable size
  • Minimum - Largest file, best quality

Export Presets

Save your settings for reuse:

  1. Configure all options
  2. Click Save as Preset
  3. Name your preset
  4. Select it for future exports

Common presets:

  • Journal submission - Double-spaced, numbered
  • Conference paper - Single-column, compact
  • Thesis chapter - Formatted per requirements
  • Draft - Watermarked, line numbers

Troubleshooting

Slow Export

  • Reduce image resolution
  • Simplify complex equations
  • Export sections separately

Fonts Not Rendering

  • Use standard fonts
  • Enable font embedding
  • Check for special characters

Layout Issues

  • Review in preview first
  • Adjust margins
  • Check image sizes

Large File Size

  • Reduce image quality
